The Central Okanagan Regional Science Fair (CORSF) operates through its affiliation with the Youth Science Council of Canada (YSF). This means that CORSF and the student who participate in the Regional Science Fair must follow the rules and policy of YSF. Make sure your project is ethical and safe
YSF Canada is responsible for the monitoring and screening of of projects involving the use of human participants in research projects, the use of l9ive animals, as well as the use of hazardous materials.
YSF Canada's rules on the use of animals are recognized by the Canadian Council on Animal Care and apply to all research done by pro-university youth. YSF's rules o the use of human participants are the only ones that apply to pre-university your in Canada, and are patterned after the ethical expectation of good, responsible research.

IF the regions; ethics committee is unsure about a proposed projects, they many refer it to the national committee.

What is Informed Consent?
Participants must give informed consent before taking part in any science fair project. The project and their participation in it have to be explained to children in words they will understand. It must also be explained to children that they do not have to participate unless they want to, even if their parents have approved. Agreement to participate (assent) must be documented for each participant. Children over 9 years can be invited to indicate their assent by co-signing the same form their parent signed. Younger children can provide assent orally but the researcher must document it.
